10 Unforgettable traveling moments

Todas as viagens têm momentos que te marcam de alguma forma. Imagens que ficam gravadas na tua memória, aromas e sabores característicos, sons que transformam o ambiente. A título de exemplo, o som que emana de cada minarete nos países muçulmanos a determinadas horas do dia, para convocar os seus fiéis para a reza, ou o cheirinho a especiarias na Índia. Para além disso, o povo que transparece a cultura e história de cada local enriquece  a experiência de cada viagem, que certamente no seu todo é mais do que a soma destes aspectos. Cada uma das experiências vividas a cada viagem, é uma herança preciosa na nossa vida. Por este motivo, decidi há um ano criar este blog, para partilhar experiências e deixar uma pequena herança daquilo que vi, senti e experiênciei.

Every trip has special moments. Images that stay engraved in your memory, aromas and characteristic flavors, sounds that transform the environment. For example, the sound emanating from every minaret in Muslim countries at certain times of the day, to summon their believers to pray, or the smell of spices in India. In addition, the people who conveys the essence of their culture and history of each place enriches the experience of each trip, which in its entirety is more than the sum of these aspects. Each one of the experiences lived in each trip is a precious heritage in our lives. For this reason, I decided a year ago to create this blog, to share experiences and leave a small legacy of what I saw, felt and experienced.

O blog The world painted by Littlelle comemora o seu primeiro aninho de existência e para assinalar esta data vou tentar responder a uma das perguntas mais difíceis que me costumam fazer: “Qual foi o sítio que mais gostaste?”. Para mim é quase impossível arranjar uma resposta, é difícil comparar culturas e paisagens e eleger a melhor. Todas são interessantes, ricas e únicas, havendo aspetos que valorizo mais, claro, mas normalmente são raros os sítios a que tenha ido e que posso afirmar que não gostei. Há sempre algo novo a reter, alguma nova aprendizagem que fica. A resposta que encontrei para esta pergunta passa por destacar não sítios, mas momentos, aqueles que me deixaram de boca aberta ou com a lágrima ao canto do olho, e que derivam da combinação de vários factores: ambiente, paisagem, companhia, propósito... enfim… Deixo-vos ficar 10 momentos inesquecíveis “around the world”!

The blog The world painted by Littlelle celebrates its first anniversary and to mark this date I will try to answer one of the most difficult questions that usually people ask me: "What is the place that you liked the most?” For me it’s almost impossible to answer, it’s difficult to compare cultures and landscapes and choose which one is the best. All of them are interesting, rich and unique, there are aspects that I value more of course, but certainly are rare the sites where I have been to and I can say that I did not like them. There is always something new to retain, some new learning to do. The answer I found to this question was to highlight not sites, but moments, those that left me open-mouthed or with a tear in the eye, and that derive from the combination of several factors: environment, landscape, company, purpose... So... I leave you with 10 unforgettable moments around the world!

Watching the sunrise on a Balloon in Cappadocia

Nascer do sol, andar de balão e Capadócia! Tem tudo para ser um momento inesquecível, a não ser que o balão caísse ou se incendiasse… Não foi o caso. Felizmente! Sobrevoar as chaminés de fadas e o Vale de Dervent com o sol a surgir por detrás das montanhas é algo indescritível! Imaginar que ali por debaixo existem pelo menos 200 cidades subterrâneas faz-te voar para a imaginação!

Sunrise, fly in a hot air balloon and Cappadocia! It has everything to be an unforgettable moment, unless the balloon fell or caught fire... That was not the case. Fortunately! Flying over the fairy chimneys and the Dervent Valley with the sun rising behind the mountains is something beyond description! To imagine that below there are at least 200 underground cities makes your imagination fly even higher!

Glimpse the size of Tokyo

Em Tóquio, se subires a alguma das torres que compõe esta cidade futurista, não consegues perder a mesma de vista, estás sempre rodeado por prédios e tecnologia. Quando estava a deslocar-me para Tóquio, disseram-me que ainda faltava 1h30 para chegar, e eu já estava a ver cidade ao meu redor!

In Tokyo, if you climb to any of the towers that compose this futuristic city, you can’t take the eyes off of the city, you are always surrounded by buildings and technology. When I was going, to Tokyo, someone told me that it was still 1h30 to arrive, and I was already seeing the city around me!

Contemplate the nightfall in New York

Existem várias imagens desta cidade que me ficaram, espero eu, definitivamente, gravadas na memória. Uma delas foi o pôr do sol no topo do Empire State Building, seguido da iluminação da cidade a acender-se a pouco e pouco.  Sem dúvida que NY é uma cidade fantástica a qualquer hora do dia, contudo esta transição da tarde para a noite era algo que poderia ficar a admirar sem me cansar.

There are several images of this city that I have definitely kept in my mind, I hope. One was the sunset at the top of the Empire State Building, followed by the lighting of the city. Without any doubt NY is a fantastic city at any time of the day, yet this afternoon-to-evening transition was something I could admire without getting tired.

Being in China and to feel like being at home

Como cidadã portuguesa, ao passear pelo centro histórico de Macau fui invadida pelo sentimento de “estar em casa”, sabendo que estava no entanto a quilómetros de distância! Um sentimento de estranheza que é bom! Caminhas pela típica calçada portuguesa e vês os candeeiros que iluminam as ruas, onde o povo chinês faz a sua rotina diária. É uma conjunção que me fez sentir confortável e com orgulho do meu país!

As a Portuguese citizen, while I was strolling through Macau's historic center, I was overwhelmed by the feeling of being at home knowing that I was miles away from it! It was a feeling of strangeness that felt so good! You walk through the typical Portuguese sidewalk and you see the lamps that illuminate the streets, where the Chinese people do their daily routine. It‘s a conjunction that made me feel comfortable and proud of my country!

Enter the Amber Fort on the back of an elephant

Perto da cidade de Jaipur na Índia, situado no topo de um monte, o Forte de Amber oferece uma vista panorâmica para o lago Maota. Para chegar ao monte onde está esta fortaleza que apresenta jardins, templos e palácio, podes ir a pé ou no dorso de um elefante. Tens uma vista lindíssima e ao entrares na Suraj Pol (porta do sol), sentes que vais ser recebida por um Rajá.

Near the city of Jaipur in India, perched on a hilltop, the Amber Fort offers a panoramic view of Lake Maota. To reach the hill where this fortress was built, which has gardens, temples and a palace, you can go on foot or on the back of an elephant. You have a magnificent view and when you enter Suraj Pol (door of the sun), you feel that you will be received by a Rajah.

Time travel in Cuba

Assim que aterras em Cuba, ficas com a sensação que recuaste 50 anos no tempo! A arquitetura colonial desgastada pelo tempo e os carros americanos que circulam nas ruas, deixam-te com uma sensação de seres figurante de um filme a preto e branco de Hitchcock, por exemplo, mas aqui cheio de cor! 

Once you land in Cuba, you have the feeling that you have stepped 50 years back in time! The weather-worn colonial architecture and the American cars that circulate on the streets leave you with the feeling of being in a black-and-white Hitchcock movie, for example, but here full of colors!

Architectural accuracy of Chichen Itza

As brilhantes ruínas da antiga cidade maia de Chichen Itza, são um dos locais arqueológicos mais visitados do México, possivelmente por representar o espantoso conhecimento astrológico e matemático maia. Exemplos disso é o templo de Kukulcán, construído em forma de pirâmide com 30 metros de altura. Este apresenta 365 degraus que representam os 365 dias do calendário maia, para além disso, durante o equinócio da primavera e do outono, o reflexo do sol permite ver o desenho de uma serpente a descer a sua escadaria. Quando te colocas em frente à pirâmide, se bateres palmas ouves um som semelhante a uma ave, ficas com a sensação de que estás a ser sobrevoado por um bando de aves. O que mais esconderá?

The brilliant ruins of the ancient Mayan city of Chichen Itza are one of the most visited archeological sites in Mexico, possibly because they represent the astonishing Mayan astrological and mathematical knowledge. Examples of this is the temple of Kukulcán, built in the shape of a pyramid with 30 meters in height. This presents 365 steps that represent the 365 days of the Mayan calendar, also during the equinox of spring and autumn, the reflection of the sun lets you see the design of a serpent descending its staircase. When you stand in front of the pyramid, if you clap your hands, you will hear a sound that looks like a bird, you get the feeling that you are being flown by a flock of birds. What else does it hide?

Strolling around the Wall of Dubrovnik

Percorrer a muralha, com cerca de 2 km em torno desta pitoresca cidade junto ao Mar Adriático, é algo a não perder. Dependendo da hora a que vás, as cores da cidade vão-se alterando consoante o reflexo do sol. Neste percurso, para além da vista para os telhados e igrejas da cidade, vislumbra-se o mar e as ilhas envolventes, passando por várias torres e torreões que compõem a muralha.

Walking the wall with about 2 km around this picturesque town surrounded by the Adriatic Sea is something not to be missed. Depending on the time you go, the colors of the city will change according to the reflection of the sun. Along this route, besides the view of the city's roofs and churches, one can glimpse the sea and the surrounding islands, passing through several towers and turrets that compose the wall.

Victoria Harbor by night

O cenário da cidade de Hong Kong é cativante pela mistura de culturas que caracteriza a sua paisagem, o chinês, o inglês e o americano instalado numa paisagem quase tropical. Um dos pontos a não perder é Victoria Harbour, um porto urbano rodeado por arranha-céus. Poder sentar e admirar a sua vista durante a noite, por si só é um motivo digno para visitar esta cidade. Ali realiza-se diariamente o Symphony of Lights que otimiza a paisagem urbana com um espetáculo de luz e som.

The scenery of Hong Kong is captivating by the mix of cultures that characterize its landscape, Chinese, English and American installed in an almost tropical landscape. One of the points not to be missed is Victoria Harbor, an urban harbor surrounded by skyscrapers. Being able to sit and admire its view at night, is itself a worthy reason to visit this city. The Symphony of Lights show is realized daily, optimizing the urban landscape with a light and sound dance.

Donkey ride in Santorini

Descobrir os recantos de Oia e Fira na ilha de Santorini na Grécia é um prazer! Quando te deparares com as escadas que tens de descer para o porto de Fira para voltar para o navio, como foi o meu caso, paras, pensas e sentes-te literalmente Grego! Tens duas opções: ou desces os 587 degraus à chapa do sol ou vais de burro! Ou melhor Sr. Burro, pois não são burritos, mais parecem cavalos e vão sozinhos pela escadaria abaixo! Partilhar a descida desta escadaria com dezenas de burros e as pessoas que os tentam montar é hilariante! Alguns burros param e fazem birra, nem com cenouras lá vão!

Discovering the corners of Oia and Fira on the island of Santorini in Greece is a pleasure! When you come across the stairs that leave to the port of Fira to return to the ship, as was my case, you stop, think and feel literally Greek! You have two options: you can either descend the 587 steps or ride a donkey! Sorry, Mr. Donkey, because they are not little dokeys, they look like horses and go down the stairs all by themselves! Sharing the descent of this staircase with dozens of donkeys and the people who try to ride them is hilarious! Some donkeys stop and make a tantrum, not even carrots help!

Ao final de um ano de existência, não posso deixar de agradecer novamente às pessoas que me ajudaram a desenvolver este blog e que me continuam a apoiar! Estão todos também de parabéns!
