Para mim as viagens devem ser
aproveitadas até ao último momento! Foi de acordo com esta máxima que fiquei a
conhecer o Dubai, uma das principais cidades dos Emirados Árabes Unidos, que
combina o conforto da sociedade ocidental com o charme único da Arábia. Numa
das escalas que fiz nessa cidade, conotada pelos seus excessos e luxo, e uma
vez que já tinha os voos pagos, decidi aproveitar para fazer uma escapadinha de
3 dias para conhecer o “Dubai lifestyle”. Esta cosmopolita cidade, localizada
no Deserto Arábico, é indicada para quem é louco por compras, para quem gosta
de aventura, deslocações ao deserto ou desportos radicais ou simplesmente para
relaxar num hotel junto à praia!
For me traveling should be enjoyed until the
last moment! It was according to this maximum that I got to know Dubai, one of
the main cities of the United Arab Emirates, which combines the comfort of the western
society with the unique charm of Arabia. In one of the stopovers I made in this
city, connoted by its excesses and luxury, and since I already had the flights
paid, I decided to take the opportunity to take a 3-day trip to get to know the
Dubai lifestyle. This cosmopolitan city, located in the Arabian Desert, is
suitable for those who are crazy about shopping, for those who like adventure,
desert or extreme sports or simply to relax in a hotel by the beach!

Pode-se dizer que nesta terra de
ouro, petróleo e de
Sheiks, para além
da exuberante arquitetura no meio do árido deserto, destacam-se os carros de
luxo, os hotéis, cada qual com uma arquitetura muito própria e os
shoppings com lojas a perder de vista. Nesta
cidade conhecida pelo luxo, o que mais gostei foi algo tão simples como o pôr
do sol, visto cada dia de um sítio diferente.
Não consigo escolher qual o melhor.
We can tell that in this land of gold, oil and Sheiks, besides its exuberant
architecture in the middle of the arid desert, the luxury cars, hotels, each
one with a very own architecture and shopping malls with shops out of sight, stand
out. At this city known for its luxury, what I liked the most, was something as
simple as the sunset, seem each day from a different place. I don’t know yet
which one was the best.

Day 1| Souks and Desert
Não estaríamos na Arábia se não
sentíssemos o cheiro das especiarias, assim pela manhã visitei os Souks das especiarias, tecidos e ouro
(fecham depois de almoço das 13 às 16h e à sexta de manhã), situados em Deira ao lado do Dubai Creek (metro mais próximo Union Square, optei por ir de táxi,
uma vez que são baratos).
We wouldn’t be in Arabia, if we do not feel the
smell of spices, so in the morning I visited the Souks of spices, fabrics and
gold (closed after lunch from 1 pm to 4pm and on Friday morning), located at Deira next to the Dubai Creek (Union
Square metro station is the closest, I preferred to go by taxi, since it was
cheap).

O
Souk do Ouro é um
souk
(rua comercial) semelhante às ruas de comércio das cidades árabes, mas apenas
com ourivesarias que exibem montras carregadas de artigos em ouro e prata. Têm
peças que são verdadeiras obras de arte. Não sei quem poderá alguma vez
utilizar colares com aquele tamanho e exuberância. Não passará despercebido a ninguém,
muito menos aos ladrões!
The Gold Souk is a shopping traditional street similar to the shopping streets of Arab cities, but only with jewelry that display shop windows full of gold and silver items. Some of them are truly pieces of art. I don’t know who could use necklaces with that size and exuberance. It is noticeable for everyone, especially for the thieves!

Neste zona é típico fazer um passeio de
abra (barco tradicional) no
creek, um canal de água artificial que
separa
Deira do
Bur Dubai, zona histórica do Dubai. O passeio pode ser negociado
ficando a um preço bastante acessível. Com 30 euros ficámos com um barco só
para nós. Devido à falta de tempo, ficou por ver a zona histórica (Bastakia
Quarter, Museu do Dubai, Grande Mesquita, Forte Al-Fahidi). No entanto, no
Dubai, contrariamente à maioria das cidades, a zona moderna é onde se encontram
as verdadeiras atrações.
In this zone it’s usual to
take a walk by abra (traditional
boat) at the creek, an artificial
channel of water that separates Deira
from Bur Dubai, Dubai historic area.
The boat tour can be negotiated at a very affordable price. With just 30€ we
had a boat just for us. Due to the lack of time, it remained to see the
historical zone (Bastakia Quarter, Museum of Dubai, Great Mosque, Al-Fahidi
Fort). However, in Dubai, unlike most cities, the modern zone is where you will
find the true attractions.

Almoçámos no
Mall of the Emirates, shopping que no seu interior tem uma pista de
ski (aberto das 10h às 22h e de 5ª a sábado até às 2 da manhã). Neve no meio do
deserto, consegues imaginar isto? A meio da tarde fomos para o deserto
(experiência aprofundada numa próxima publicação).
We had lunch at The Mall of the Emirates, shopping mall that has a ski slope (open from
10am to 10 pm and from Thursday to Saturday until 2 am). Snow in the middle of
the desert, can you imagine this? In the afternoon we went to the desert (a
more detailed experience in an upcoming publication).

Day 2| Burj Khalifa and shop at the Dubai Mall
A parte da tarde ficou reservada
para o ex-líbris do Dubai, o Burj Khalifa, o maior prédio do mundo com
163 andares e 828 metros de altura. É possível subir ao seu observatório
situado no 124º andar que tem uma panorâmica de 360º sobre o Dubai. A visita
pode ser feita a diferentes horas do dia, sendo recomendado fazer uma reserva
antecipada. Fiz a reserva no hotel e optei por ir ao final da tarde a fim de
contemplar o pôr do sol e a noite na cidade. A esse horário as entradas custam cerca de 66€
(preço varia consoante a hora da visita), o que à partida pode parecer um
bocado exagerado, paga a vista fantástica que se tem lá de cima. É possível ver
toda a extensão da cidade rodeada, de um lado pela areia dourada do deserto e
do outro pelo mar brilhante. A arquitetura dos prédios é vista com uma outra
perspetiva e a circulação das centenas de automóveis parece lá de cima uma
colónia de formigas. O próprio interior do edifício também é interessante, e
apesar de serem 124 andares o elevador chega ao topo em apenas 1 minuto, sendo também
o elevador mais rápido do mundo. Este prédio é tão grande que nele se situam 30
000 apartamentos e 9 hotéis, incluindo o Hotel da Armani. Se não fizeres
questão de ir a esta hora do dia, as entradas pela manhã têm preços mais
acessíveis. O acesso ao Observatório do Burj
Khalifa faz-se pelo Dubai Mall (Lower Ground Level; metro: Burj
Khalifa/Dubai Mall).
The afternoon was reserved for the ex-libris of Dubai, the Burj Khalifa, the highest building in
the world with 163 floors and 828 meters in height. It is possible to go up to
its 124th floor observatory which has a 360º panoramic view of Dubai. The visit
can be done at different times of the day and it is recommended to make an
advance reservation. I did it at the hotel and I preferred to go at the end of
the afternoon in order to see the sunset and the night at the city. At this
time the tickets cost about 66 € (price varies according to the time of the
visit), which at first may seem a bit exaggerated, but the fantastic view from
above totally pays it off. It is possible to see the whole extension of the
city surrounded, on one side by the golden sand of the desert and the other by
the shinny sea. The buildings architecture is seen with a total different
perspective and the circulation of hundreds of cars looks like a colony of
ants. The interior of the building is also interesting, although being 124
floors, the elevator is only one minute away of reaching the top, being also
the fastest in the world. This building is so huge that has 30 000
apartments and 9 hotels, being one of them the Armani Hotel. If you don’t want
to go at this time of day, the entrances in the morning are more affordable. The
access to the Burj Khalifa
Observatory is done by the Dubai Mall (at the Lower Ground Level; subway: Burj
Khalifa/Dubai Mall).

O edifício do
Burj Khalifa é tão alto que para o
enquadrar na fotografia é preciso alguma ginástica! A circundar este magnifico
prédio ficam as fontes do Dubai, onde a partir das 18 horas, de meia em meia
hora, existe um extravagante espectáculo de água, luz e som. É mais uma coisa em
grande no Dubai. Nesta zona existem vários restaurantes e shoppings, entre eles
o
Souk Al Bahar, que ilustra uma
mercado tradicional árabe e o
Dubai, o
maior
shopping do mundo
Mall (aberto das 10h às 24h). Possui 1200
lojas, 22 salas de cinema, 280 restaurantes e cafés, um ringue de patinagem e um
aquário gigante com 10 milhões de litros e 33 000 animais marinhos,
incluindo tubarões, que também é possível visitar (Dubai Aquarium and Discovery
Centre). O jantar e as restantes horas do dia foram passadas neste paraíso das
compras.
The Burj
Khalifa is so high that to fit in the photograph you need to do some
gymnastics! Surrounding this magnificent building are the fountains of Dubai,
where from 6 p.m., every half hour there is an extravagant spectacle of water,
light and sound. It’s another great thing in Dubai. In this zone there are many
restaurants and malls, among them is the Souk
Al Bahar, which illustrates a traditional Arab market and the Dubai Mall
the largest mall in the world (opens from 10am to midnight). It has 1200 shops,
22 movie theaters, 280 restaurants and cafes, a skating rink and a giant
aquarium with 10 million liters and 33,000 marine animals, including sharks,
which you can also visit (Dubai Aquarium and Discovery Center). The dinner and
the remaining hours of the day were spent in this shopping paradise.

Day 3| Beach, luxury hotels and Dubai Marina
O Dubai encontra-se rodeado pelo
Mar Arábico, cuja temperatura da água ronda os 30º graus. Ir à praia no meio de
deserto com estas condições é simplesmente tentador. Existem praias privadas concessionadas
pelos hotéis e praias públicas, estas possuem uma lista infindável de regras,
como não tomar banho depois de pôr do sol. Essas praias não possuem sombras e dado as
temperaturas, optei por dar um salto pela manhã a Jumeirah beach, uma praia ao lado do Burj Al Arabe, famoso hotel de 7 estrelas. Perto desta zona fica o Souk Madinat Jumeirah, zona comercial
que recria os tradicionais souks
árabes. Ainda tentei caminhar até lá, mas caminhar não é solução no Dubai, e
como a distância era curta o táxi recusou-se a nos levar até lá.
Dubai is surrounded by the Arabian Sea, where
water temperature is around 30 degrees. Going the beach in the middle of the
desert with such conditions is simply tempting. There are private beaches
awarded by hotels and public beaches, which have an endless list of rules, such
as not bathing after sunset. These beaches don’t have sun shadows, and due to
the high temperatures, I preferred to go to Jumeirah
beach in the morning, a beach right next to the Burj Al Arabe, a famous 7 stars hotel. Near that zone there is the Souk Madinat Jumeirah, a shopping area
that recreates the traditional Arabic souks.
I tried to walk there, but walking is no solution in Dubai, and as the distance
was short the taxi refused to take us there.

Depois de almoçar no
Mall of the Emirates fomos de
tram até
ao monocarril (25 AED) que percorre a
Palm
Jumeirah, uma das ilhas artificiais em forma de palmeira, onde se situam
vários hotéis de luxo, como o Hotel Atlantis. Desta ilha é possível ter uma
bonita vista sobre o
skyline da
cidade.
After lunch at the Mall of Emirates we went by tram up to the monorail (25AED) that goes
through Palm Jumeirah, one of the palm-shaped artificial islands, home to
several luxury hotels, such as the Atlantis Hotel. From this island you can
have a beautiful view over the city’s skyline.

Ao final da tarde fui até à Marina
do Dubai, que se encontra rodeada de arranha-céus, parece difícil encontrar
aquele oásis na cidade. Também aqui é possível ver um pôr do sol fantástico,
fazendo um passeio de barco pela marina (cerca de 15€ por pessoa). Este é um
bom sítio para ficar para jantar e terminar a visita do Dubai em grande, a
desfrutar da vista para os arranha-céus e palmeiras que contornam a Marina.
By the end of the day, I went to Dubai Marina,
which is surrounded by skyscrapers, it seems difficult to find that oasis in
the city. Here it is also possible to see a fantastic sunset, by doing a trip
boat around the marina (about 15€ per person). This is a good place to have
dinner and finish the visit of Dubai, by enjoying the view of the skyscrapers
and palm trees that surround the Marina.
