O Natal é sempre que o Homem
quiser, sim concordo! E certamente que o Natal terá um significado diferente
para cada pessoa de acordo com a sua cultura, religião e própria experiência
pessoal. Para mim, uma das coisas que me atrai nesta época festiva do ano é a envolvência
natalícia com que as ruas das cidades se enchem e os artistas de rua que tornam
o ambiente mais animado com as habituais músicas de Natal. Nesta época gosto
sobretudo de viajar para países com tradição de mercados de Natal, onde as ruas
geladas ganham vida, cor e aroma a vinho quente com canela e outras
especiarias, uma verdadeira festa para os sentidos!
Christmas is whenever Man wants,
yes i agree with that! And certainly that Christmas should have a different
meaning fos each one according their culture, religion and their own personal
experience. For me, one of the things that attracts me in this festive season
is the Christmas wrath with which the city streets fill in and the street
performers that make the atmosphere more lively with the usual Christmas songs.
In this season I like especially to travel to countries with Christmas Markets
tradition, where the freezing streets come alive, color and flavor of hot wine
with cinnamon and other spices, a true feast for the senses!

Os Mercados de Natal nasceram no
século XV na Europa, mais precisamente na zona onde atualmente se situa a
Alemanha, onde ainda hoje, pela altura do Advento, as ruas se transformam,
ganhando um charme e dinâmica mágica. Esta tradição também é realizada nos
países envolventes, como a Áustria, França e Suiça, encontrando-se atualmente
globalmente difundida.
The Christmas Markets was born on
15th century in Europe, more precisely where currently is Germany,
where still nowadays, by the Advent, the streets transform, gaining a charm and
magic dynamics. This tradition is also carried out in the surrounding
countries, such as Austria, France and Switzerland, and is currently globally
widespread.

Normalmente, os Mercados de Natal
começam no período de Advento, no início de novembro até à terceira semana de
dezembro. Cada mercado tem o seu encanto, sendo o cenário de fundo, fundamental
para mim, para o seu enquadramento pitoresco. Normalmente os mercados situam-se
na praça principal ou sítios icónicos de cada cidade, sendo que também já estive
em mercados localizados em jardins (
English Garden em
Munique), dentro de edifícios
como igrejas ou antigos hospitais (Lubeck), ou até mesmo no aeroporto
(Munique). Nestes mercados podem-se encontrar artigos de artesanato
tradicional, artesanato urbano, artigos de decoração natalícia e muita comida e
bebida, o que para mim, é um dos motivos principais para atrais muitas das
pessoas, que apesar do frio que se faz sentir, se juntam nestes mercados para
conviver. O menu normalmente é composto pelos pratos típicos regionais e o
tradicional vinho quente (gluhwein, vin chaud, mulled win, consoante a zona),
outras bebidas alcoólicas e chocolate quente. Para os mais gulosos dependendo
da região, pode-se encontrar crepes,
gouffres
e muito chocolate!! Normalmente existe sempre algum tipo de animação de rua,
sendo o mais habitual, os concertos de natal.
Usualy, the Christmas Market
season runs throughout the Advent period, from the end of November to the third
week of December. Each market has its charm, being the background scenery,
fundamental for me, for its picturesque setting. Usually the markets are
located in the main square or iconic sites of each city, being that I have
already been at markets located at gardens (English Garden in Munich), inside
buildings like churches or old hospitals (Lubeck), or even at the airport
(Munich). At these markets, you can find articles of traditional crafts, urban
handicrafts, articles of Christmas decoration and plenty of food and drink,
which for me is one of the main reasons for attracting many people, who despite
the cold that is felt, come to the markets to socialize. Usualy the menu is compound
by tradicional dishes and the typical mulled wine (Gluhwein or vin chaud
depending on the zone), other alcoholic drinks and hot chocolate. For the
greediest depending on the region, one can find crepes, gouffres and lots of
chocolate!! Usualy there’s always some kind of street entertainment, the most
usual being the Christmas concerts.

Cada mercado tem a sua própria
caneca. O cliente pode ficar com ela, pagando a totalidade do dinheiro, ou
devolver a mesma após o consumo, sendo reembolsado por 2€ ou 3€ dependendo do
local. É um perigo para os colecionadores que se habilitam a vir carregados de
canecas para casa!
Each market has it own christmas
cup. The client can keep it, by paying the total bill or return it after
consumption, being refunded for € 2 or € 3 depending on the location. It’s
dangerous to collectors who can came back home full of cups!

1. Marché de Noel of Strasbourg
Estrasburgo é a maior cidade da Alsácia,
situada no leste de França junto à Alemanha, absorveu a tradição dos mercados
do país vizinho, decorando durante a quadra natalícia o seu centro histórico ao
pormenor com chalés de madeira e bonitas iluminações para o Marché de l’Enfant
Jésus de Estrasburgo, desde 1570.
O
vin chaud (vinho quente), choucroute (couves em vinagre), pain d’épices (pão doce com especiarias),
bonhomme (gingerbread) e macarrons, são alguns dos petiscos tradicionais que
aqui podes encontrar.
Strasbourg
is the bigest city in Alsace, located in est of France next to Germany,
has absorbed the tradition of the markets of the neighboring country, decorating
during the Christmas period its historical center to the detail with wooden
chalets and beautiful illuminations for the Marché de l'Enfant Jésus of
Strasbourg, since 1570. Vin Chaud (mulled wine), choucroute (cabbages in
vinegar), pain d’épices (sweet
bread with spices), bonhomme (gingerbread) e macarrons, they are some of the
tradicional delicacies that you can find here.

2. Marché de Noel of Colmar
Naturalmente, o centro histórico desta cidade medieval parece que foi tocado pela varinha mágica de uma fada, parecendo no Natal, que foi transformado numa cidade de conto de fadas. A
Petite Venise, onde nos deparamos com canais, é um lugar encantador!
Também localizada na região da Alsácia, esta cidade partilha das mesmas iguarias de Estrasburgo, com especial foco nos vinhos da região.
By nature the historic center of this medieval city seems to have been touched by the magic wand of a fairy, by Christmas time, it seems that has been transformed into a fairy-tale town. Petite Venise, where we came across with channels, it’s such a lovely place! As this town is also located in Alsace, Colmar shares the same delicacies as Strasbourg, with special focus on wines.

3. Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt
Com cerca de 400 anos de tradição, um dos
Mercados de Natal mais famosos da Alemanha, situa-se na Hauptmarkt, a praça
central na cidade velha de Nuremberga. Ao virar da esquina deste grande
mercado, existe um Mercado de Natal totalmente dedicado às crianças, com o
típico carrossel, cuja música e a cor dão um toque especial aos sentidos de quem
por lá passa.
Os sabores e aromas deste mercado na
Baviera são os frutos secos caramelizados, corações doces, gluhwein (vinho
quente), the Original Nuremberg Rostbratwurst (salsichas típicas de
Nuremberga), bifes com cebola caramelizada, pretzel e castanhas assadas, entre
outras coisas.
With almost 400 years of tradition, one of the most famous Chritsmas
Marks from Germany, is located at Hauptmarkt, the central square of Nuremberg
old city. Just around the corner from this great market, there is a Christmas
Market totally dedicated to children, with the typical carousel, whose music
and color add a special touch to the senses of those who go there.
The flavors and aromas of this market in Bavaria are the caramelized
nuts, sweet hearts, mulled wine), the Original Nuremberg Rostbratwurst
(typical Sausages from Nuremberg), steak with caramelized onions, pretzel and roasted
chestnuts, among other things.

4. Hamburg Christkindlesmarkt
Hamburgo é uma cidade alemã conhecida como
a Veneza do norte, por se encontrar rodeada de lagos e canais. Agora imagina só
as centenas de iluminações de Natal a refletir na água. Entre os inúmeros Mercados
de Natal da cidade, como o da igreja de St. Petri, um mercado flutuante ou um
mercado todo decorado em cor de rosa, destaco o
Rathausmarkt, que tem como pano
de fundo o imponente edifício do
Rathaus (câmara municipal) de Hamburgo. Neste
mercado existe uma rua só de brinquedos (the Spielzeuggasse), onde não são só
os corações das crianças que ficam a bater mais rápido! As clássicas salsichas
acompanhadas pelo
gluhwein não poderiam faltar, bem como uma sopinha para
aquecer a alma! Para a sobremesa um dos doces locais é o Marzipan.
5. Christkindlmarket of Salzburg
Na
cidade natal de Mozart, o Mercado de
Natal tem como pano de fundo a Catedral, e bem lá no topo o castelo medieval.
Tal como nos outros mercados, também aqui existem várias barraquinhas com
artesanato e artigos de Natal. Destaco um artigo que salta à vista de quem
passa, ovos pintados ou decorados à mão, para decorar a árvore de Natal. Uma
verdadeira preciosidade que se pode partir num abrir e fechar de olhos.
Para saborear, existem chocolates e os
pretzel doces, entre outras goluseimas.
In Mozart’s hometown, the Christmas Market is
set against the Cathedral, and on top has a medieval castle. As in other
markets, there are also several stalls with handicrafts and Christmas items. I
highlight an article that jumps in the eye of the passer, hand painted eggs, to
decorate the Christmas tree. A real precious that can be broken in the blink of
an eye.
